Volanté has been developed entirely in pure Java. Java is the most flexible and state of the art
programming language and unlike any other system, is cross platform compatible and operates in multiple
environments – This gives the user freedom to choose Windows 2000/XP, Linux or Windows and Linux.
Java, being a cross platform compatible language permits users to choose any operating system or a
combination thereof. This freedom gives users the opportunity to save on additional Windows license fees,
as an example. The open standard architecture allows the entire system to be compatible with third party
industrial applications. Users are free to choose their operating environment and are not bound to costly
proprietary restrictions.
In addition, Volanté’s design allows all terminals to work independently ensuring continuous operations even in the
event of a network or host computer failure or both. We like to refer to this as “cash register tough, computer smart”.
The breakdown of a hub or tripping of a cable does not affect Volanté. The peer- to-peer technology ensures that terminals
are up and running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, short of a catastrophic power or hardware failure.
The peer-to-peer architecture, advanced data synchronization capability and transactional consistency deliver the truest
form of distributed processing. Volanté has thus eliminated the need for a back office server (the single point of failure)
by creating distributed transactional services, which is a communication layer using Volanté’s modified remote method invocation
technology, allowing the terminals to share their transactional information peer-to-peer.
Given that transactional terminal information sharing must be done through the auspices of a server/client topology,
the resulting single point of failure drastically reduces the ability for terminals to function independently or off-line.
Additionally, what happens when the server or network is enabled after downtime? Again, because of Volanté’s distributed object,
data synchronization and peer-to-peer architecture, transactional data is recaptured systemically, automatically and flawlessly.
Current standard practice requires manually invoked external exception handling routines. This does not and will not guarantee
integral data recapture. For more information on Volante's Java POS solutions, email us at sales@volantesystems.com
